How a profile is built

30 questions to start, then String carries on from the student's own work.

    What it asks
    What they notice first, and how they like to take in information and decide.

    Research on thinking preferences. It describes a preference, not an ability.

  • The fuel

    What it asks
    Whether they believe they can improve, whether they trust themselves now, and what moves them.
    What it rests on
    Research on growth mindset (Carol Dweck), self-efficacy (Albert Bandura), and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

  • The manual

    What it asks
    Whether they plan their work, monitor it and evaluate it.
    What it rests on
    Research on metacognition: planning, monitoring and evaluating.

What the profile is not

So it isn't read as something it's not.

  • Not an intelligence test

    It doesn't measure how smart a student is, and no style is smarter than another.

  • Not a diagnosis

    It doesn't diagnose learning difficulties or any condition, and it doesn't replace a specialist.

  • Not a fixed verdict

    The fuel and the manual change with the work, and the questions can be retaken.

  • Never a comparison with classmates

    It describes the student alone, and never ranks them against others.
